Equipment

  • A 9×9 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • A whisk and a spatula
  • A double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar or a sugar substitute
  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil or melted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Pan

  • First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). While it warms up, grab a 9x9 inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper. This helps keep the brownies from sticking which makes it easier to take them out later.

Step 2: Melt the Chocolate and Mix with Fats

  • In a double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate chips until smooth. If you're using the microwave, heat in 30-second bursts, stirring in between to avoid burning. Once the chocolate is melted, mix in the coconut oil or melted butter until it's all blended together.

Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate mixing bowl, add the unsweetened cocoa powder, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together to make sure that everything is distributed evenly.

Step 4: Make the Wet Mixture

  • In another bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk these ingredients together until smooth and creamy. This mixture will add moisture and flavor to the brownies.

Step 5: Mix Everything Together

  • Pour the melted chocolate into the bowl with the wet ingredients and stir until it’s all well combined. Then, slowly add the dry ingredients, gently folding them in with a spatula. Make sure there are no lumps, and the batter is nice and smooth.

Step 6: Bake the Brownies

  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Put the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick stuck in the center comes out with a few wet crumbs.

Step 7: Cool and Serve

  • Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 to 12 minutes. Then, lift them out using the parchment paper and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy your deliciously healthy chocolate brownies with Greek yogurt.

Notes

After combining all the ingredients, be careful not to overmix the batter, as this can result in tough brownies instead of the desired soft and chewy texture. Your brownies are ready when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. It's a good idea to start checking a few minutes before the suggested baking time, since oven temperatures can differ.
