Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small bowl (optional, for thickening)
  • Whisk (optional)

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon thick-cut works best
  • ¼ cup bacon drippings reserved from cooking
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch optional, for thickening

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Bacon

  • Place 6 bacon slices in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until crispy, about 8-10 minutes, flipping as needed. Remove bacon and set aside, keeping ¼ cup drippings in the pan.

Step 2: Add Vinegar and Water

  • Pour ¼ cup apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons water into the skillet with drippings. Stir gently to combine over medium heat. This starts building the tangy base.

Step 3: Sweeten and Season

  • Add 3 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes. Taste and adjust if you like.

Step 4: Thicken (Optional)

  • If you want a thicker dressing, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl. Stir it into the skillet and cook until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 5: Crumble Bacon and Finish

  • Crumble the cooked bacon into small pieces. Stir it into the warm dressing. Serve immediately over your favorite dish.

Notes

Always cook the bacon until crispy to maximize flavor, and don’t skip the drippings—they’re key to the taste. Adjust the sugar and vinegar to suit your preference, and serve it warm for the best experience. Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat gently to maintain texture.
