Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Knife
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 12-ounce bag of Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix (Herb Seasoned or Cornbread)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion about 1 cup diced
  • 2 celery stalks about 1 cup diced
  • 2 cups chicken broth low-sodium optional
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • Pinch of salt about 1/4 teaspoon
  • Pinch of black pepper about 1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Let it heat up while you prep the other stuff.

Step 2: Chop the Veggies

  • Dice one medium onion and two celery stalks. Keep the pieces small so they cook evenly.

Step 3: Melt the Butter

  • In a skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. It’ll give the dish that rich flavor.

Step 4: Cook the Veggies

  • Add the chopped onion and celery to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes until they soften.

Step 5: Mix the Stuffing

  • In a large bowl, dump in one 12-ounce bag of Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix. Pour the cooked veggies and butter over it.

Step 6: Add the Broth

  • Pour in 2 cups of chicken broth. Stir everything until the mix is moist but not soggy.

Step 7: Season It Up

  • Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of dried sage and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix it all together well.

Step 8: Transfer to Baking Dish

  • Spread the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Keep it even so it cooks uniformly.

Step 9: Bake the Dressing

  • Pop it in the oven for 30-35 minutes. The top should turn golden and crispy.

Step 10: Let It Rest

  • Take it out and let it sit for 5 minutes. This helps the flavors settle before serving.

Notes

When making this recipe, avoid over-soaking the stuffing mix to keep it fluffy, not mushy. Use a large enough dish for even crisping, and don’t skip sautéing the veggies for full flavor. Adjust seasonings to taste for the best results.
