Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Stand Mixer
  • Measuring Cups/Spoons
  • Pastry Brush

Ingredients

For the Rolls:

  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour plus extra for rolling
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk warmed (not hot!)
  • 1/4 cup water warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg

For the Cinnamon Butter:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  • First, get the yeast ready. In a big bowl, mix warm milk, water, and a spoon of sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it gets bubbly. This step is important to make sure the yeast is active and ready to help your recipe.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients

  • Once the yeast is activated, add the remaining sugar, softened butter, egg, and salt to the bowl. Mix well until thoroughly combined. After mixing, slowly add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing constantly until a smooth dough forms. It should be slightly sticky but still manageable.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

  • Now, it’s time to knead. If using a stand mixer, attach the dough hook and knead for about 4-5 minutes on medium speed. If kneading by hand, transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes. The goal is a smooth and elastic dough that bounces back when pressed.

Step 4: Let the Dough Rise

  • Transfer the kneaded dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until it doubles in size. This will give us the soft, fluffy rolls we’re looking for.

Step 5: Shape the Rolls

  • Once the dough has risen, press it down to remove the air bubbles. Roll the dough on a floured surface until it reaches a thickness of 1/2 inch. Cut it into squares or circles whatever you like and place them on a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6: Second Rise

  • Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes. This second rise helps give them that extra softness, making every bite melt in your mouth.

Step 7: Bake the Rolls

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown. The aroma will be amazing as they bake. Once done, remove them from the oven and brush with melted butter immediately for that classic shine and taste.

Step 8: Make the Cinnamon Butter

  • While the rolls bake, make the cinnamon butter. In a small bowl, mix the soft butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon until smooth and creamy. This sweet butter is the perfect match for the rolls and makes them even better.

Notes

When making these tasty Texas Roadhouse Rolls, be patient. Letting the dough rise properly is key to getting them soft and fluffy. You can adjust the sweetness of the cinnamon butter to your taste, and don’t forget to brush on plenty of butter for a rich, delicious finish.
