Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or Spoon
  • Saucepan
  • Ladle or Funnel
  • Airtight Container or Glass Jar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  • Start by gathering and measuring out all of your ingredients. This will make cooking easier. You will need tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Make sure everything is measured and ready before you begin cooking.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients

  • In your mixing bowl, combine the tomato paste with the apple cider vinegar, molasses, and brown sugar. Mix them together until you have a thick, consistent mixture. This base will give your barbecue sauce its body and beginning flavor profile.

Step 3: Add the Seasonings

  • Now, add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt to the mixture. Use a whisk or spoon to blend them thoroughly into the sauce. The spices are key for achieving the signature tangy and sweet taste familiar in Wendy's Barbecue Sauce.

Step 4: Cook the Sauce

  • Pour your mixture into a saucepan. Put it on medium heat and let it gently bubble. Stir the sauce now and then to stop it from sticking to the pan. Cook for about 15 to 20 minutes to let the flavors blend and get stronger.

Step 5: Cool and Store

  • Once the sauce has cooked and thickened how you like, take it off the heat and let it cool a bit. Use a ladle or funnel to pour the sauce into an airtight container or jar. Make sure the container is sealed tight and put it in the fridge. Your homemade Wendy's Barbecue Sauce is now ready to add extra yum to your meals.

Notes

If you want to keep the sauce for a long time, think about freezing it. Freeze it in small amounts using freezer-safe bags or containers, and thaw it in the fridge when you’re ready to use it.
